Silver Spring to host AFI Latin American Film Festival

The AFI Latin American Film Festival is bringing filmmakers, actors and moviegoers together in Silver Spring for a celebration of Latin American cinema.

The annual festival, presented by the American Film Institute, features a selection of films from across Latin America, Spain and Portugal, giving audiences an opportunity to see stories and perspectives that may not receive wide theatrical releases in the United States.

Screenings include feature films, documentaries and other works representing the region’s diverse cultures and filmmaking traditions. The festival also provides opportunities for audiences to connect with filmmakers and learn more about the stories behind the films.

Some of the movies showcased are: The Match, from Argentina, The Condor Daughter from Bolivia, Papaya from Brazil, Donkey Princess, from Chile and Barrio Triste from Colombia.

For filmgoers the festival has become a way to experience international cinema close to home while highlighting emerging and established voices from the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world.

The festival is being held at AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
