County voters face key state and local races on Nov. 3 ballot

Maryland voters will head to the polls Nov. 3 to decide a series of state and local races, including contests for governor, attorney general, comptroller, Congress and seats in the General Assembly.

The general election will also determine leadership in Montgomery County, where voters will choose a county executive, county council members and school board representatives. The races on each ballot will depend on the voter’s district.

In the Maryland governor’s race, Democratic Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller are seeking another term. Republican Dan Cox is also on the ballot, alongside other party candidates. The election will test voters’ views of the state’s leadership and priorities.

Montgomery County’s executive race features Democrat Will Jawando and Republican Esther Wells. The winner will lead the county government and help shape decisions on public services, housing, transportation and the county budget.

County council contests will also be important for residents. The council sets local policies and approves the county budget. Four at-large seats are on the ballot, along with seven district seats. Candidates include Democrats Marc Elrich, Scott Goldberg, Laurie-Anne Sayles and Karla Silvestre, and Republican Sherwin Wells in the at-large contest.

Voters will also elect representatives to the Maryland General Assembly and the U.S. House of Representatives. Other local contests include the state’s attorney, sheriff, clerk of the Circuit Court and register of wills. Several school board seats are also up for election.

Maryland’s early voting period runs from Oct. 22 through Oct. 29, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Election Day, Nov. 3, polls will also be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters can review official candidate listings, ballot questions and election information through the Maryland State Board of Elections. Checking a sample ballot in advance can help voters confirm which contests and candidates will appear in their district.
