Registration opens Monday for Montgomery County winter youth basketball

Registration for Montgomery County Recreation’s winter youth basketball leagues and skills clinics opened Monday.

The winter program is open for youth from kindergarten through 12th grade, focusing on basketball fundamentals alongside skills such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

"Youth basketball is a great way for young people to build confidence, develop skills and, most importantly, have fun," Montgomery County Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz said in a statement.

Families can register online through ActiveMONTGOMERY.org or in person at the county’s administrative office on the 10th floor of 2425 Reedie Drive in Wheaton.

In-person registration is also available at any county recreation center during standard business hours.

The department is also seeking adult volunteer coaches, who must pass a background check and fingerprinting.

Paid and volunteer official positions are available for individuals ages 16 and older to work weekend games, with training provided.

“We’re excited to welcome players of all skill levels for another great season. Gather your teammates, lace up your sneakers, and get ready to play!,” Albornoz wrote.
